Turtles can be pregnant for anywhere from a few weeks to several months, depending on the species. Factors that can affect the duration of their pregnancy include the species of turtle, environmental conditions, and the health of the mother turtle.
No turtle species is considered "harmful" in the strictest sense of the word. Some species, such as snapping turtles and softshell turtles may act aggressively towards humans if disturbed and should therefore not be kept as pets by most individuals.
Female turtles lay eggs after mating with male turtles. The male turtle fertilizes the eggs inside the female's body before she lays them in a nest on land. The eggs hatch after a certain period of time, and baby turtles emerge from the eggs ready to start their lives.
