Gently wash it with soap and water, but the soap must be ANTI BACTERIAL. only wash it once a day. if you overdo it, it is more prone to allergy or infections from touching it too much. then, mix sea salt (non iodized salt) and water, stir until its dissolved. don't put too much salt. Do about 1/4 tablespoon per 1 cup of warm water.

Get a cotton ball, saturate it in the saltwater, and let the cotton ball sit on the piercing for about three minutes. this is a little booster-clean in between soap washes. Do the sea salt soak 3-5 times a day.

Well you should read the written aftercare instructions that you were given, they will outline how to properly clean your new piercing and how often to clean the piercing.

If you were not provided with written instructions I would suggest phoning the studio or going back and asking for the aftercare instructions (they are required to provide these instructions in writing* {*health board requirement for almost every place doing body piercing}).

Or you could do what I have recommended for the last 20 years. Simply in the shower. do your shampoo conditioner soap up and rinse off.

Once you are done with washing everything else, before exiting the shower simply allow the shower water to hit your navel, while the water is running move the jewellery (ring or curved barbell) back and forth allowing the water to enter the piercing and flush out any discharge and matter that the piercing is generating.

Once the jewellery moves freely in the piercing, that's your cue to stop moving the jewellery. Exit the shower and dry the piercing off with a clean towel. That's it, no cotton balls, no salt water soaks, no aftercare crap. Just a good water rinse daily and after any activity like swimming or exercise.

Navel piercings don't really need the drawn out after care fluff listed above. Using common sense and good personal hygiene is all thats required. This is bases on several thousand piercings I have provided as a professional body piercer over the last 20 years. Less is some times better than over kill.
I've Recently Got my belly button pierced. The guy that pierced my belly button said to go to the store and Buy sea salt and mix it with warm water. Then get a cue tip and put it all around the piercing. You are suppose to do that 3-5 times a day for Eight weeks so It wont get infected.
I just got mine done 2 days ago. The guy who pierced mine told me i should mix 1tsp of any kinda of salt with 1cup of water. Put a cotton ball or anything soft in the water to soak it up and gently rub around you're piercing. Remember not to touch it to much because or else it will cause the skin to irritate and that will cause swelling. Hope I helped you out a little bit!
For the first week, clean with antibacterial (Dial) soap twice a day -- not more than that. After the first week, reduce to once a day. Be sure not to overclean as that can cause some problems. Some people recommend to use salt water soaks -- I do not. If overused or abused, salt water can have detrimental affects on your piercings. I can cause irritation, which in turn can cause dryness, itchiness, flakiness, and if overused for long periods of time, the piercing may never heal. If you still want to use it, I want to make sure you use it properly. Here's what you do : Dissolve 1/8 - 1/4 teaspoon of non-iodized (iodine free) sea salt into 8 oz. of warm water. Turn the cup of solution upside down, or however you need to, to form a vacuum around the piercing. Leave it there for no more than 2 minutes. Rinse the piercing thoroughly with warm water to be sure that all of the salt particles are gone from your piercing. Do this NO MORE than once a day. If you feel you must do this, do it right along with the general aftercare (antibacterial soap) of your piercing.

What is some basic information about belly button piercing?

A belly button piercing can be a lot of fun, but it must be kept absolutely clean. It is a piercing that is easily infected, and when it does get infected, it's pretty bad. After getting pierced, clean the area twice a day (as well as after the shower, after swimming in the beach, etc). Also know that after the belly button ring is removed, there will be a small scar that can stretch (permanently) during pregnancy.
