(adding to this) -- The Water Pik guide cautions about using mouthwashes, says to "check with your dental professional" -- we have had a couple of these machines die an early death because of leaking hoses, (I think we are guilty f not always rinsing it after using mouthwash and water) -- very annoying that they are virtually unrepairable, as the handset is fused together like rock, very hard to open. Assuming I could get in there, it's likely a hose deteriorated at the connection point, and a simply snip and re-fit of the hose would do. I consider this product inferior just because of its seeming "planned Obsolescence" -- and although annoying I have no choice but to replace it every year or so. This year we will try to only run it with water....
(another reply) -- I have had several Waterpiks, and after losing two, I don't think using mouthwash is EVER a good idea. If you use just water they last for ever, seemingly. The hoses can break down. However, you CAN buy the hose and handtool for a modest price, and it's super easy to install.
