Be nice to it. That's the short answer, but perhaps you expectation is for something more that actually happens. If so read the last paragraph.

The clitoris, like a penis, becomes erect during arousal, which means the expectation of sex. Watching or reading erotic material may get you aroused, or being with a potential sex partner, or having suitable attention payed to your sensitive areas will help the clitoris become aroused. When aroused the "glans clitoris" is a highly sensitive bump found at the top of the space above the vagina where the inner lips come together with the clitoral hood.

Some woman have a "Hypertrophic" clitoris, which means it's bigger than expected on a woman, and also some have a "Hypotrophic" clitoris which means it's smaller. So the question is what is expected? There is no "standard" size, but a typical woman's erect clitoris may be a small bump at the top of the vulva, to one long enough to hold between finger and thumb. Women with no discernible clitoris are not unusual, though they might consult with a gynecologist who might suggest circumcision. A woman with a larger clitoris than suggested above is also not unusual but may want to consult their GP. Some GPs are not well trained in this area however so perhaps a gynecologist or urologist should be consulted.
