How do you hypnotize someone without harming them?

You have to use key words and make the other person trust you. You can do that by talking like them - soft and quiet or loud and harsh. Also if the other person talks about whether you see what he's talking about or whether you can picture something then you'd' gain trust by also using the sight sense. Some people use smell, some touch and many others. Also if you want somebody to do something they are more likely to do so if you say for example: "Please can you turn the lights on because i have to read this document." If you say "Turn on the lights." they are obviously not going to. Of course you cant say to someone, "give me 500 pounds" but you can suggest it.

Unfortunately, hypnosis is not as depicted in fiction, TV, and movies. At no point is the hypnotist "controlling the mind" of the subject in any way. It is merely a cooperative state, which cannot be established against the subject's will.

First the subject is placed in a calm, relaxed state. Then the subject must focus on the instructions of the hypnotist to the exclusion of other thoughts and concerns. At this point, the subject becomes susceptible to further focus or suggestion.

Although hypnosis is a valuable tool in some psychological treatments, any information gained may be unreliable, as the subject may not distinguish between real memories and imagined ones.

Hypnosis rarely harms anyone when done it a clinical context. Hypnotized people always remain AWAKE (hypnotherapists don't put anyone to sleep) and aware of the situation, they just simply go away with it.


Hypnotized people usually comment later that they "could have stopped the whole thing, but just didn't want to".


But since in a state of hypnosis people are more susceptible to what one says, there can be a poor evaluation of danger situations, so it's by all means advisable to be hypnotized by those with a proper license.


However, you can hypnotize yourself. There are scripts available for free online, and they are effective but no as effective as a clinical hypnotherapy program.
