In extreme cases (go to the doctor immediately if you see this!), you might see streaks leading away from the site of the infection. Also, note that you might not KNOW there is pus because it might all be trapped inside (hence the swelling and tenderness).
IF it's infected, there's nothing you can do about it at home (nothing topical -- nothing you put on it, like soap -- will help, and peroxide and harsh things like that will just hurt it even more). You need to get antibiotics. You should see your piercer, who can decide whether or not you should seek antibiotics from a doctor (and also, he/she will warn you of BAD ADVICE the doctor may give you, and tell you not to listen to it), and then a doctor, if necessary.
