Signs of a Lip Piercing Infection and What to do..First you will see and feel some swelling, and it will start to be a bit painful when you yawn, or stretch your mouth.

If this is happening you should be using listerine or a salt wash after breakfast lunch and dinner. Don't over do it though because it will just get really irritated. Bactine also helps if you see there is an infection. In the shower, clean around the piercing with antibacterial soap. Liquid Dial works best. Be sure to move the piercing around and rinse all of the soap off well.

When you first get your piercing, you shouldn't play with it or move it with your tongue. Only touch it when cleaning it and always make sure to wash your hands first.

NEVER take out your piercing if it is infected. Doing so can cause an abscess. The piercing will close and trap the infection inside.

Seek medical attention if the infection worsens. Do not use alcohol, peroxide, Neosporin. Alcohol and peroxide are cytotoxic, which means they kill healthy living tissue as well as infected tissue.

• Excessive redness around the jewellery.
• Distention or swelling around the piercing.
• Painful when moving the jewellery.
• Discharge of yellow, or green bloody puss during movement of jewelry.

The first few weeks, the site will sore with possible swelling, redness, itchyness, etc which all could be taken to be "rejection". Keep it clean and dry, avoid getting it caught on anything and messing around with it, and it'll heal. Some people's take longer than others, and it may become infected, but with proper care and time, the wound will heal.

if it has green stuff (not crusties) coming out. you could have a keloid, I would go to the shop you got it done at and have them check it out. but I would say if you think you have problems they will tell you to use mouth wash on the inside and bactine on the outside. its works great. make sure every time you eat, you are washing your mouth out with water. if its red and hurts that usually normal. you cant take it out until it heals, just so you know. if you do have an infection, it will get stuck inside and cause problems. call the shop and see what they say.
