***HINTS TO MINIMIZE SCARS***

After my accident, I got good info from a nurse, who also happened to work for a plastic surgeon. She told me the following: Keep your scars out of the sun, and if that is difficult, use lots of strong sunscreen that blocks UVA and UVB rays. When scars are in the sun, they will get red, stand out, and never fade! Also- there are creams that I found worked really well. "Scarzone" & "Mederma". They come in a tube, sold at pharmacies. Also pure vitamin oil, made for external use. The nurse said to wait at least a month, even 2 months after getting scars before you use the creams. After scars "set and heal", (1-2 months), you can start using the cream. Put it on everyday, even 2-3 times a day. I alternated between creams; 1 week- Scarzone; Next week- Mederma, then vit. E. Use it faithfully, for at LEAST a month. I used it for 3 months. My scar was on my face and it was nasty. Now, you can hardly see it. It's been 11 months, and I still use creams a few times a week. NOTE: The Mederma is like $22.00 a tube, and Scarzone is under $10.00 a tube. Get both, it's worth it! AND, always wear sunscreen. Hope this helps!
