Seriously, it's a question that should be pondered. There's no point in prolonging a useless or painful life, and little in prolonging a major cripple ... especially since the total resources are limited. It was all very well to maintain C Reeves so he could be an example - of waste. How many poor kids could have been treated for temporary problems with the money that was spent on him? (even if the problem is hunger?)

The whole point of medicine is to prolong life, but you can't do it forever.

There is really no guaranteed way to prolong life. There are no secrets either. Cut tobacco (chewing and smoking), alcohol consumption and obesity, exercise more and eat right, and you have a better-than-average chance of living a long time.
