Why is cotton bad?

I wouldn't say cotton is bad. Cotton is capable of holding a parasite that when used for a filter for drugs such as heroin, cocaine and the like gives you cotton fever. Cotton fever usually resembles opiate/opioid withdraw with strong flu like symptom's, the only difference is that it cannot be cured with more of the drug. Cotton fever is abolished with proper medical care from a doctor which usually provides the patient with antibiotics and the like. Hope this clears some things up.
