John Snow (1813-1858) mapped cholera affected houses in Broad Street, London, and the water pump they got their water from. By doing this, he saw a link between the cholera houses and one certain pump in that area establishing the link between water and the spread of cholera.

Extra info-

  • He published a book about this in 1849 about his findings. (On the Mode of Communication of Cholera)
  • He ended the theory that Miasma (bad air) caused disease but still didn't prove exactly what caused disease, just how it was spread.
  • His theory was not widely accepted until the 1960s.
