HIV and AIDS are not the same thing. HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is the virus that causes humans to develop AIDS. HIV is spread through contact with infected blood, semen, vaginal fluid and breast milk. AIDS is a diagnosis that is issued by a health provider.

HIV is unable to survive outside the human body. It is unable to be transmitted to any animal so it is impossible to be infected by an animal.

There are other immunodeficiency viruses that infect animals however. These viruses may cause the animals to develop their own version of AIDS, however the condition would mean something much different because of the difference in disease susceptibility.
