Life with Cri-Du-Chat can be enjoyable if you do all the right things. People who suffer from Cri-Du-Chat have extreme learning disabilities and can't normally socialize. It is diifficult to eat because of swallowing problems and have large respiratory problems. It is difficult to move because of por musscle tone and therefore a child cant play any sports or go to a playground. This disease is very similar to Cerebral Palsy.

Cri du Chat has a negative effect on the lives of people who have this syndrome. People who have this genetic mutation are mentally retarded, have partially fused toes or fingers, a small head (microephaly) and jaw (micrognathia), have a slow growth rate, have a slow or incomplete development of motor skills, have severe cognitive and speech delays, and have a cry that sounds like a cat. However, 1/3 children can lose the cry by the age of 2. Mental retardation can vary, depending on the extent of deletion of deltacatenin, a protein which is important for brain functioning.
