The heart is enclosed in the thorax. That is in the rib cage. The thoracic and abdominal aorta is protected by the spine. You have one arm and thigh bone and one artery for each one. You have two forearm bones and two leg bones and two arteries. Only the common carotid arteries are not protected. Rather could not be protected. The carnivorous animals grab the front of the neck by instinct only. The arm and thigh arteries are placed medially to get the protection.

With out the help from your skeletal system, your circulatory system is helpless. You have cardiac out put of five litres per minute only. It can not be increased to 25 litres per minute, with out help from the skeletal system. The cardiac out put increases to 25 litres per minute, after even the 100 meter run up, in say 15 seconds. This may take your heart rate to 180, or at least 160 per minute. You do this much exercise daily. This will prevent the heart attack to unlimited period of your life.
