The lungs in the human body make you breathe. You notice when you inhale (breathe in) your chest gets higher? That is your lungs filling up with air, which includes gases like Oxygen and CO2. So, in order to live, you need Oxygen, but not the CO2.

Next your lungs exhale, or breathe out. This releases the CO2 because you have to get rid of it. The Oxygen is then pumped into your blood so you can live.
