It can be very effective temporarily. Hospitals will quickly make the patient / anorexic regain the weight and reach healthy body levels again. This is not good treatment, though, as the mental problems may not have been addressed fully. With such force, the patient is likely to retaliate and relapse after leaving the hospial, so often it is a grand waste of time and effort and money.
