The term 'Metastasis' refers to the process in which the cancer, (malignant tumour), spreads from its original site and establishes additional tumour(s) in different areas in the body. That process can also happen for Breast cancer.
A recent research by the Cardiff University (UK) has identified a gene, named Bcl3, which could be responsible for metastasis in breast cancer. (Genes are specific areas of the DNA where nucleotides (the building blocks of DNA) are joined in a specific order. These areas are holding the blue-print of the traits or characteristics of all organisms, and they are inherited by the off-springs of that organism).
By inactivating (suppressing) the gene Bcl3, the researchers were able to reduce breast cancer metastasis by over 80%! The drug that they developed for the silencing totally stopped the spread in mice. Clinical studies are planned to follow with the drug.

October 13th is recognized as Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day, not Breast Cancer Awareness Day. Metastatic breast cancer is the most advanced stage of breast cancer, where cancer has spread beyond the breast to other parts of the body. This day is dedicated to raising awareness about the specific challenges faced by those living with metastatic breast cancer and to emphasize the need for ongoing research and support for individuals affected by this stage of the disease.

Cervical plexopathy may be caused by trauma or by head and neck tumors. Brachial plexopathy is commonly related to breast cancer, lung cancer, lymphoma, or metastatic tumor
It means cancer has spread from the breast to the other parts of the body, such as the bone, lung, liver or brain.
To identify metastatic disease
The first person you can talk to about metastatic breast cancer is your family doctor. There are also many online health websites with cancer facts such as WedMD, National Breast Cancer Foundation, and American Cancer Fund.

Breast cancer is not caused by a microorganism.
Stage 4 breast cancer has a lower survival rate than lower stages. When someone has been diagnosed with this stage it means that the original location of the cancer has masticated or spread to other parts of the body. Agressive therapy including chemotherapy and radiation is used to treat it.
