i have Wilson's disease. if caught early, it is usually treated with copper chelation therapy and zinc to counteract the copper absorption, and rarely is there an issue. BUT sometimes, it is not caught until there is a problem, especially when there is no knowledge of a family history. My sister was the first to be diagnosed. Because it is genetic, my brother and I were both screened.
in my case, liver damage was already done. i have cirrhosis of the liver, and will need a liver transplant. my sister passed away. when i get the transplant, i can look forward to being one of the lucky people who can start over with an undamaged liver, who can control the disease with just zinc and syprine alone. hope this helped!
