ADHD -- the 'H' means hyperactive, this is usually associated with children and they begin to be less hyperactive as they get older and most of that is gone by puberty. Unfortunately other symptoms of ADD lasts for life such such as the difficulty to concentrate on certain things and wavering consciousness, impulsiveness (which isn't always bad), and difficulty waiting for rewards. After puberty there are other problems as their curiosity and impulsiveness makes them more likely to do things they maybe shouldn't, but this also leads them to do new things which can really be neat.
These children are not inherently bad but they don't think or do things the way others do, so to try and force them to (which is what most people do) will cause them and those who try to force them a lot of frustration. ADHD kids often receive a lot of anger from their parents, teachers and other children. Having everyone angry with them all the time can really cause them to hate the world and themselves, which will cause other problems such as deliberate rebellion. They begin to figure, "I'm always being accused of doing bad things deliberately, (which they don't) then I will do bad things deliberately!" This can then lead to criminal behavior later on. At least 50% of people in prison have ADD. Loving them and praising them for their strengths can really help prevent that. Make sure teachers and other kids are not constantly on their case as well.
All is not hopeless! There are methods and techniques that can help. There are books and websites on this subject. Extra patience and understanding is essential with such children or they will get worse. These kids are often very gifted in certain areas and if parents try to encourage those gifts that can help offset the negative traits of ADD. The creativity of many of these kids is quite phenomenal! Since they have the ability to think outside the box most if not all the greatest geniuses in history had ADD. Maybe your child will be one of them!
Unfortunately yes, but with practice and medication for some people you can be distraction free.
( Some times people will have ADHD their whole life and other times ADHD will go away on its own. It most commonly begins to go away at the beginning of adulthood.)
It would be more accurate to say that as children with ADHD grow older, they learn better coping skills so that they learn to compensate and find ways to concentrate a bit better and control their impulses better. The ADHD didn't go away, they just learned coping skills. I am an adult diagnosed with ADHD. I still have trouble sometimes focusing and tend to be more impulsive than most adults, but since I'm lucky to be rather gifted mentally it didn't' keep my from getting 4 college degrees (B.S., M.S., Ph.D. and another M.S.). Even so it has constantly made it more difficult for me to stay on task and get things done on time. The fact that I'm busy on here answering this question while I should be working is a good example.... :-)
adhd can not be treated and pills or patches can help to calm you down but not cure the adhd!

If you are taking ADHD pills and you do not have ADHD, and were not prescribed that medicine, then it is not only for one illegal, but it is also bad for you, it will affect your body in a different way than people with adhd, because the adhd medicines target their brain and temporarily fixes the negative symptoms of adhd by altering the brain chemicals. If you do not have the same brain chemicals, then the medicine will have different effects on your body, so yes it may very well be bad for your health.
For me, it lasts about 24-36 hours. Its pretty intense, get ready
