This depends on many factors, any person of any race, sex, social-economic status, sexuality should be tested for HIV/AIDS at least once a year if sexually active. That being said, being HIV positive is no longer a death sentence. HIV/AIDS medications are miracle drugs compared to what was given back in the 80's and early 90's. Since HAART therapy was introduced in 1996, the medications have improved drastically. This is considered more of a chronic condition than a life threatning condition. Medication has prolonged the lives of many people. As long as a patient adheres to medication and eats healthy, exercises and doesnt smoke they can live a normal lifespan. This question is hard to answer; some people can live indefinitely with HIV so long as they take their drugs and maintain their health in other ways. Some people develop AIDS despite all treatment and die much sooner. Talk to your doctor to find out the details and to develop a treatment protocol that's suited to you, if you have HIV and are concerned. Recent research studies indicate that people live on average 24 years after being diagnosed with HIV. Please consider that the medical care you receive has a large impact on longevity. A person without treatment ie. medications, proper physician care, may live an average of 7 to 15 years. It could be from few months to 25-30 years. it could be longer than that even. I've been living with HIV, AIDS since October of 1990 and I only know 2 people that have died from this disease, or should I say of infections associated with it. you will more than likely have complications from the side effects and damage the anti viral drugs do to your body. right now I am undetectable with a somewhat normal viral load. I don't take my drugs as prescribed, which is a huge no no that can lead to virus mutations.
