You don't acutally menstruate. Its a discharge that starts out as a heavy bleeding and lessens and changes color as the next couple weeks go on. It will eventually go from red, to brownish, to brown, to light brown, to yellowish, to white and then stop. Unfortunately right around the time it stops, you will probably get your first "real" period post-birth

it can take up to six weeks for your ovulation cycle to start again and your period should pick back up shortly after. altho a few women do find it takes up to 3 mounths. if you find your still waiting for it after that time consult your doctor
