Ipecac normally takes 20-30 minutes to work, although an individual with long-term bulimia can have thrown their entire digestive system into a slow down.
Ipecac can kill you, even if you don't have bulimia. It is only for use when the poison you've taken outweighs the possible damage the poison will do. This is because ipecac itself damages the heart.
Because ipecac causes violent vomiting, there is a higher than normal possibility that you can aspirate vomit into your lungs, causing you to choke and die, or get pneumonia.
It can cause seizures.
If you are a bulimic, both of the above are risks. Especially the heart damage, because chances are you have already damaged your heart. But if your electrolytes are imbalanced, the loss of potassium that kind of vomiting will do can give you a heart attack. Even regular purging from bulimia can cause a heart attack from electrolyte imbalance, but with ipecac you cannot stop the vomiting. It will not simply end when the food is gone.
For a bulimic, you are already at risk for an esophageal tear. Ipecac on its own can cause injury to the throat. The violent vomiting that can happen puts you at an even higher risk.
I urge you to not use it to begin with, and to seek an emergency department's help if you have just taken it.
Ipecac normally takes 10 to 20 minutes after administration to cause vomiting. And watch out because it causes projectile vomiting.
Usually about 15 minutes. Ipecac is no longer recommended in poisoning because the vomiting can cause damage, especially if the ingestion is caustic, the ipecac is toxic and people can aspirate the vomit and create more problems.
this can take up to about 6 to 7 weeks.
An Emetic. Iit is called: "Epacac Syrup" you can find it at any pharmacy. It tastes just "absolutely horrible" and it will ususally take effect within 30 minutes.

The AMA and USFDA used to recommend using Syrup of ipecac. That product no longer made and is not available in the U.S. It was determined that the dangers far outweighed what studies showed were negligible positives. Of people who ingested poison, they could not prove that those who took Ipecac and vomited fared any better than those who did not take the Ipecac. If you need Poison Control assistance, call them with information about what was swallowed. They will tell you what you need to do.

Yes. You can take the same with codeine cough syrup.
You can get Ipecac syrup at your local pharmacy. You should know that Ipecac can delay the administration or reduce the effectiveness of activated charcoal, oral antidotes, and whole bowel irrigation. If you think your dog or cat has been poisoned, you should contact your vet's office or poison control hotline for instructions of what to do, rather than automatically giving your pet Ipecac syrup. The ASPCA has a poison control center you can call in an emergency, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, though they will charge your credit card $65 for the service. Their number is: (888) 426-4435. Another 24/7 emergency pet poison helpline is The Pet Poison Helpline. They will charge your credit card $39 . This fee covers the initial consultation as well as all follow-up calls associated with the management of the case. Their number is: 800-213-6680 Kansas State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital 785-532-5679 FREE 24 hours poison control hotline for pet owners and veterinarians. Be patient, the person answering the phone may have to take a few minutes to consult the vet on duty.
Yes, it can be done, but remember to use a big enough pot. If you want one pint of syrup, you have to boil down about 5 gallons of sap. Think about how long your stove would take to boil 5 gallons of water down to one pint, and you've got the idea. Got a big pot? :-)
