Usually doc's say after a week, unless you do heavy lifting or laboring at your job. MY EXPERIENCE... I returned to work at a manual labor job after only 2 weeks. (They say you may return to desk jobs and jobs that aren't as strenuous at about 2 weeks.) As a result of my going back too soon, I am still having problems. I have a pain near one of the incisions (laproscopic) that is gradually getting better, but still giving me problems. One doctor says it is a nerve and another says it is a muscle problem. I had my surgery in October 2007 and it is now mid-September 2008. Be careful!!!

Recovery from hip replacement isn’t the same for everyone - but most people are surprised by how quickly they get back on their feet. In fact, many start walking within just 24 to 48 hours after surgery! For light daily activities, most patients feel comfortable again within 4 to 6 weeks. Regaining full strength, flexibility, and confidence in your movement can take around 3 to 6 months, depending on your overall health and how well you follow rehab exercises. At AJRC Patna, we’ve seen patients recover faster and more comfortably - thanks to advanced techniques like robotic-assisted surgery and the personalized care approach led by Dr. Ashish Singh. His experience, combined with modern technology, helps ensure that every step of your recovery is guided, safe, and well-supported. If you’re thinking about hip replacement, know that you're not just getting surgery - you're getting a full journey of care with a team that’s with you from start to strong.

There is no simple answer to that. It is not a standard operation that is the same for everyone. The surgery for each individual can be different, so for some it is a bigger thing to get over. Then there are other factors, like the relative health of the person, which may impact on how well able they are to recover.
