The first recorded infection was in the 1960's and the man who had it died. His blood was kept because no one knew what he died from, but in the 1980's HIV was discovered, but there was no cure and research was just starting. The 1990's more research was getting funds and became an important issue. Finally, a variety of treatments were available.

Today, doctors recommend being tested at 6 month intervals.
