Among all people with epilepsy, the gender breakdown is 48% female and 52% male. There are two times in life when epilepsy is more likely to occur: during childhood and after the age of 55. In the United States, about 9 out of every 1,000 people are treated for epilepsy in any given year, about 5% of the world's population may have one or more seizures at some time in their lives.
