I'm 23yo, and I just received a quote for $5300. Two fellow colleagues also paid just over $5000 (all different orthodontists). It's expensive I know, but it's not an essential service so I think it's justifiable... just as long as the orthodontist doesn't call me a patient - I'm clearly a customer.

On a side note, the orthodontists around here think they're posh and purchase leather couches, plasma TVs and cherry wood furniture for their office. I think the customers have to pick up the tab for these luxuries as well.

It depends on your treatment, but the average adult has braces for 18 months to 3 years. It usually costs between $5,000 and $6,000. Other braces: If having a metal smile bothers you, ceramic braces are another option. The brackets are the color of your teeth, which makes them harder to see.
