The spinal cord is a long, thin, tubular bundle ofnervous tissue and support cells that extends from thebrain (the medulla oblongata specifically). The brain and spinal cord together make up the central nervous system. The spinal cord begins at theoccipital bone and extends down to the space between the first and second lumbar vertebrae; it does not extend the entire length of the vertebral column. the spinal cord is responsible for all our immediate action (reflex action) e.g. when you put your hand in hot water, it takes less than a millisecond to realise it. that is due to the presence of spinal cord. there are millions of neurons in all parts of your body. these neurons converge and join spinal cord which then leads to the brain. some times actions need to be taken quickly hence the spinal cord resolves it.
