If you're treating a patient with Yellow Fever, the first thing to do is to seal off the room, if at all possible, to prevent any mosquitoes getting in, as they will bite the sick person and spread the disease to other people, possibly yourself. Then try and bring their fever down and keep their head and neck cool with ice or wet cloths. If they're at a hospital, they should be given saline and nutrients via an IV, but if you can't get to a hospital, they should be given lots of water, as they will be throwing up frequently. Be sure not to give them any actual food, as their organs are not functioning properly and trying to digest food could cause organ failure. Instead, give them sips of watered fruit juice or beef broth, a little at a time. Sometimes, during the illness, people suddenly feel like they've gotten better and will try to get out of bed. Do not allow them to do this. This is only a stage of the fever, like the eye of the storm, and the fever will be coming back soon. Their heart will be very weak, so the sudden exertion of standing up or trying to walk could cause heart failure. Talk calmly and cheerfully to them, as they may be delirious and will probably be very frightened. With luck, the person will make a full recovery.
