At this stage, yes the ultrasound can be off by 10 days. Mine was off by ten days the other way, that is I thought I was 18 weeks and the ultrasound said 16 and a half. I knew when I had conceived because my husband had been away on a trip.

Yes, During an ultra sound they measure the length of the baby, the limbs if visible, head circumference etc.. then calculate an expected delivery date. After this babies grow at such diffeerent rates that it becomes increasingly less accurate.

Women have cycles that are not all the same length but most women ovulate 14 days before a period is due. That is what makes the difference. At 7 weeks ultrasounds are accurate to within 3 days. At 20 weeks they are accurate within 5 days When I had my first pregnancy my cycle was 36 days which would mean my EDD would be 8 days early if my LMP was used, my US agreed with my cycle not my LMP. So if your baby's head is smaller than average, then they would give you a farther due date; If it's bigger than average they would give you a closer due date. At six weeks ultrasounds are accurate to within 2-3 days, by 12 weeks they are accurate to within 4-5 days and by 20 weeks they are only accurate within 5-7 days.
