Most dermatologists (skin doctors) will tell you that sun (UV) exposure is cumulative, and once you hit a certain point you get skin cancer. That point is different for everybody. Light skinned, blonde, blue eyed, freckles all add risk and lower the amount of acceptable accumulation. i think tanning by the sun can not cause skin cancer but tanning beds can because the sun gives you vitamin D

How often can a teenager use tanning beds and still be safe?

Tanning beds are dangerous. They do not recommend that teenagers use tanning beds without a guardian's consent as they do pose risks, as they do to everyone because of the exposure to harmful UV rays on a regular, consistent basis. However, if you must use a tanning bed they do not permit more than one visit per 24 hour period and no tanning outside during that time as well.

How do you get a skin tan without going out in the sun?

Some people use a tanning booth - but I would still caution against exposure without protection (SPF 15 or higher).

Not much--it still produces UV radiation.

Can you still tan in a tanning bed if you are wearing self tanner?

Yes, you can still tan in a tanning bed while wearing self-tanner, but the results may not be as effective or uniform. Self-tanner typically creates a temporary color on the skin, which can interfere with the tanning process, potentially leading to uneven coloration. It's advisable to wait until the self-tanner has fully developed and faded before using a tanning bed for the best results. Additionally, keep in mind that self-tanners generally do not protect against UV exposure.

Can you use outdoor sunblock when tanning indoors?

Only if it is NOT oil based. if it is oil based it will scratch the tanning bed. otherwise It is a waste of money spent on tanning to wear spf in the tanning bed because it inhibits your exposure.

What are the dangers of tanning bed lamps?

Using tanning beds is no safer than getting a tan in the sun. The sun emits UVA and UVB rays where as the tanning bed only uses UVA. Both are damaging to your skin and run a high risk of causing skin cancer with repeated tans. You can still get a sunburn using a tanning bed. Plus, your eyes are at a higher risk of developing cataracts and corneal burns.

Is sunbathing the only cause of skin cancer?

The ultraviolet (UV) rays of the sun are definitely detrimental to the skin and exposure can damage your skin (not to mention your eyes), very possibly leading to the proliferance of the very free radicals that lead to skin cancer. But you can still get a suntan using tanning products (SPF [sun protection factor]15 or higher), or just by wearing a hat and a long-sleeved shirt with long-sleeved pants. Sunburn the tops of your feet just once(!) and see how wary you become.Remember(!) Slip, slap, and slop.Slip on a shirt.Slap on a hat.Slop on the lotion (this is no timeto be moderate!).

Can you use a tanning bed with titanium screws and plate in your lower back?

What causes mesothelioma cancer?

Up to 10% of cancer cases are hereditary. Smoking has been linked to lung cancer, and excessive sun exposure to skin cancers. Other than that we're still pretty much in the dark about what causes cancer.
