Sit down. Wrap ice in a towel. Put ice on your toe for 10-15 minutes. You can leave the ice off for 15 minutes; re-apply it for another 10 minutes.
Expect that your toe might swell, be sore or painful, and be bruised.
The E.R. does NOT cast a broken toe. About all they might do is (loosely!) tape the hurt toe to the one next to it. The tape cannot be tight or it will cut off circulation.
