How would depressing your friend make him or her feel better?
Perhaps you're wondering if you could be responsible for a person becoming depressed, and whether the depression could last a long time?
The answer is no. If your friend is clinically depressed, it's not your fault. Most people react emotionally when something bad happens in a relationship. Some people become angry; others may feel depressed. These feelings are usually transient, and resolve over time.
There is a big difference between feeling sad, and having clinical depression, even though most people who are depressed also feel sad. Clinical depression can last weeks, months, or sometimes years, but the condition is not anyone's fault - not yours, and not your friend's. Depression is a physical disease that involves changes in the person's brain and usually requires medical treatment to get better.
It really all depends on "who" exactly your friend is. If it's a friend that your not very close with, don't be surprised. Now, in most cases, people who did not know you very well would not try to go through all the trouble to use you. So it would be a best friend using you. In which case you should confront this "friend" and tell them how you feel and that they are not really your friend. Resist urge to get revenge, if you do you are really no better than they are. But make sure you let them know how you feel.
Talk to your friend, and tell how you feel about it.
