The stomach is part of the digestive system. The stomach is located at the end of your esophagus and is the terminus for swallowed food and drink. The stomach receives chewed food and continues to chemically break the food down into smaller pieces, creating more surface area for your small intestine to absorb nutrients. The stomach's job is to break down the food. It does it by churning (Mixing it around the area) the food and using chemicals to break it down. The stomach makes digestive juices (acids and enzymes) that help to break our food down into a thick liquid or paste. This thick liquid or paste is called chime. The food usually remains in the stomach for about two hours.
