My son is on 2500 mg of depakote er. His doctor has him check his blood levels and he needs this high dose for the medication to be effective. It has changed his life for the better. The only problem is significant weight gain. Hopefully they will come up with something in the future to help with this.
Yes it was first prescribed for seizures, and later for Bipolar disorder. Answer I have epilepsy and take 2 500mg pills a day. Has helped me but can be used with other epilepsy medications to help improve the loss of seizures. I am also on Lamictal and Keppra.
I don't recommend it, I did so, and experienced self-induced seizures. You can take Depakote with Tramadol as long as you don't exceed more than 3 a day. I am on both meds and the pharamists told me that and I have lived by it, and I have not had seizures but then again I am taking Depakote for BiPolar Disorder not epilepsy.
Yes. I am sensitive to medicine and I take 250 mg of depakote a day. and it seems to work fine.
just as the person below said...YES you can take them together. i take 2000 mg of depakote a day and a 1mg of xanax whenever i need it. yes it is ok to take xanax with depakote. i take 1000mg of depakote er daily and 3mg xanax daily. only take xanax if prescibed to you or in extreme panic situations. never recreationnaly. withdrawels are a bitch if you get addicted
Some people with epilepsy get most of their seizures at night, which would be nocturnal epilepsy. Others can get them at any time, day or night.
Taking Depakote (valproate) and Topamax (topiramate) together can be safe under a physician's supervision, as they may be prescribed concurrently for certain conditions like epilepsy or mood stabilization. However, it is essential to monitor for potential side effects and interactions. The usual effective dosage varies: Depakote is often prescribed at 750-1500 mg per day, while Topamax typically ranges from 100-400 mg per day, depending on the condition being treated. Always consult a healthcare professional for personalized medical advice.

Valproic acid (Depakote) is the antiepileptic drug that allows for once-a-day dosing.
While a starting dose of Depakote (valproate) for a new patient is typically much lower, there may be exceptional cases where a healthcare provider prescribes 4000 mg per day, particularly for severe conditions like refractory epilepsy or acute manic episodes in bipolar disorder. Such high doses would be closely monitored for efficacy and side effects. It’s important to note that any such decision would be based on individual patient needs, response to treatment, and safety considerations. Always consult a healthcare professional for personalized medical advice.
Depakote EC is enteric coated Depakote, which must be taken in multiple doses daily. Depakote ER is extended release Depakote, which can be taken once daily, and usually requires a dose increase of 8-20% compared with Depakote EC.
