They don't! Because infants can't talk or relate well all the parents can do is go by temperature. It's one of the worst fears of parents ... getting a fever down on their infant and if they can't then it's off to the ER. Children can have high temperatures for no apparent reason. They are cranky, cry, feel terrible, but of course being so young they don't remember it. They will when they're older.
Sponging babies with a fever using cool water helps to reduce their body temperature quickly. The cool water evaporates from their skin, causing heat loss and lowering their fever. It is a safe and effective way to bring down a high temperature in infants.
Common symptoms of cancer in infants may include persistent fever, unexplained weight loss, frequent infections, and unusual lumps or swelling. Treatment options for infant cancer may include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and targeted therapy. It is important for infants with cancer to receive specialized care from a pediatric oncologist.
All fevers are too high for a 2 month old. You should always contact your doctor when an infant has any fever and do so as soon as possible. If the infant gets dehydration from the fever, it can cause serious, even life-threatening problems. Fever usually means infection, and infants do not have the immune system maturity to deal with it on their own. Always contact the doctor for infant and young children's symptoms of fever for advice.
