Hermaphrodite is not a disease.

It's sort of condition where living things has 2 sex or interested in both sex.

In animal life, we found that snails has 2 sex, but both can't impregnate each other because each sex has different maturity period. So, altough snails has 2 sex, they still have to find other snails for impregnate each other.

In human life, i ever read some articles that Julius Caesar is a hermaphrodite. Means that he did interesting in women and also intersting to men just like a women. Of course Julius Caesar doesn't have 2 sex, but we called him Hermaphrodite mentally because he was interesting to men and women.
