If you mean is a week long enough to keep the jewelry in before you change it to new jewelry, then no. Jewelry needs to stay in for 6 weeks before being changed to give the piercing time to stabilize. If changed too early, it can cause problems. If you just want to take it out and let it heal, you can do that whenever you want.

What can you use to keep the hole in your ear from closing when it was made about a day ago?

When your ear was pierced you should have been fitted with a stud. If this didn't happen you have been pierced by a person who shouldn't be allowed to do such work and is not trustworthy. Go to see a reputable piercer and have the ear checked out and fitted with a stud.
