The McDonald Triad first written about by J.M. McDonald in the Journal of Psychiatry, found three 'red flags' in the childhood of many serial killers. These flags were as follows: bed wetting, fire starting and cruelty to animals.

It should be noted that many children may experience any one of these behaviours yet grow up to be normal, well-adjusted adults, or may experience all of these behaviours yet still not become a serial killer.

But these behaviours are the common denominators in many serial killers. They can serve as a warning and hopefully if heeded in time, may prevent tragedy in the future adult lives of troubled children.
