Green eyes and blue eyes are caused by the same gene. The amount of melanin in the eyes determines the eyes color.
Everyone has blue eyes when they are born. Its just your natural color when you are born. Then when you get a little bit older, your eyes either change color like brown, hazel, green, Green-blue. Your eyes change color because of genes. And traits. But if your eyes were meant to stay blue from genes then your eyes are blue. Most people have brown eyes. Also blue too. Its not a very good chance you will get green-blue eyes.
Everyone thinks they are brown but they are actually blue.

There's the biological answer and there's the physics answer. Biologically, yes, it's determined by your genes. Interestingly, the mutation that originally caused blue eyes occurred only about 10,000 years ago. Prior to that, all humans had brown eyes. Everyone who now has blue eyes is a descendant of that one person with the mutation. The physics answer is that the blue color is caused by Rayleigh scattering. In other words, blue eyes are blue for the same reason that the sky is blue.
Yes - all babies have blue eyes. They are either grey/hazel or a very dark, dark blue! About.com explains: eye color is inherited from parents, but it may be blue at birth, because the Melanin - a brown pigment molecule that colors has not been fully deposited in the irises or darkened following exposure to ultraviolet light. It all depends on the gender of your family members. If your family mostly have boys and they all have blue eyes, then the babies eyes are more likely to be that colour. It is most common though that if you have a boy, and the fathers eyes are brown (eg) then your son is more likely to get brown eyes. :)
