Yes, pain in and around the area of a yellow jacket sting is normal. The sting injects venom, which can cause localized pain, swelling, and redness. These symptoms typically subside within a few hours to a few days. However, if severe pain, widespread swelling, or allergic reactions occur, it's important to seek medical attention.
There is no record of a famous person dying of a bee sting. However, around 100 people die every year as a result of allergic reactions to bee stings.
Ultimately the best thing to do with any infected piercing is to wash it with diluted and lathered liquid antibacterial soap while moving the jewellery to allow the soap to clean the piercing out then followed with a good rinse with warm running water again moving the jewellery during the rinse to flush the soap and discharge material out of the piercing. Once this is done dry the piercing and use a light film of Bacitracin on the jewellery while again moving the jewellery into the piercing. The washing and rinsing are the important steps, the Bacitracin is just an added feature which you can use or not (that's up to you) but if you do use it be very sparing with it too much will choke the piercing and stop it from discharging (we want it to discharge to remove the irritant and infection). Treating and infection in a piercing involves cleaning it to the point where it starts to sting when it stings you are down to fresh tissue and that's where you want to stop. Discharge matter and dead cells do not cause a sting sensation and that's the stuff we want out of the piercing. Doing the cleaning daily the stinging will stop and the discharging will ease off and the piercing should take on a more normal color. Then when you get to that point just rinse the piercing daily under running water and leave it alone. Happy piercings!!
