Is it normal to bleed from your anus while pregnant?

I can disagree a little with this first answer... A lot of theses answers are provided by young girls that may have experienced none or one of the symptoms and have answered without fully knowing the real answer...rectal bleeding can be normal in the case that you may have hemorrhoids which is common during pregnancy...also stool can be hardened due to the lack of fluids you are ingesting...more fluids are needed during pregnancy as the growing fetus will take most of your fluids before your body gets a chance to use them... as long as it is not a large amount of blood followed by mucous, it should not be of a huge concern. If in fact you are worried and the symptoms get worse see your Dr... Answers on the internet will not always be correct... Good luck

Blood in stool is never normal...Unless it is not in the stool.

If the blood is bright red, it could be you are straining to defecate (have a BM) or you could be constipated.

Many women get constipated during pregnancy from the iron in pre-natal vitamins, because they don't have enough fiber in their diet, aren't drinking enough fluids or just have a poor diet. This along with pressure from the baby's head, resting in the pelvis - leads to hemorroids and these hemorroids can open and bleed, which may look like there is blood in the stool.

If the blood is DARK or BLACK, or the stool looks like tar (black and sticky), see your doctor ASAP, that is not ok and can mean some type of internal bleeding.

If you know for sure that you are pregnant, it is probably not going to be your period, although some women have experienced a "first" period then learns a couple of weeks later that they really are pregnant. It is possible that it could be implantation bleeding caused by the fertilized egg to attach itself to the uterine wall. Or it could be a cervical change that can cause vaginal bleeding. Vaginal bleeding can also be a symptom of ectopic (tubal) pregnancy or placenta previa. Another cause for bleeding during pregnancy is a miscarriage although the first two reasons for bleeding are more common, it is still a good idea to contact your doctor.

I don't know about it being normal. It's better not to strain. Iv'e heard of it caused by two reasons both the baby should be fine.

One reason I heard is that from straining you could burst a blood vessel. Another reason is your cervix is sensitive and could bleed.

I had this issue and went for a ultrasound but the baby looked fine. Thank G-d.

Doctor told me not to strain.

At later stage of pregnancy, hemorrhoids worsen which in turn causes bleeding.
