So do. Some don't. Those who do find someone who is easily led, believes their lies and turns a blind eye to their behavior. Someone who makes decent money but needs love. A long term relationship bolsters their "image" as "faithful & reliable" when they are ANYTHING BUT. Many long-term Ns visit prostitutes, lure other women into clandestine relationships, are net-porn addicts, are drinkers or gamblers. The long-termer is usually deeply trauma bonded to the N.

Anyone could do either - in the view of many narcissists everyone else is there to flatter and supply them with what they need emotionally. You can go from being overvalued if you are doing this 'pumping up' to being apparently hated and put down viciously (often behind your back too) as soon as you don't do what they feel you should be doing.
