Fungus and Mushrooms are related. Fairy Rings are those ring formations of mushrooms you'll see on lawns. Ringworm (actually a fungus, not a worm at all) is pretty similar in it's formation.

You could say yes, they are similar.. except, when you look at ringworm under a microscope, they look oval shaped, not at all like mushrooms.

on a side note, black mold (the toxic crap) looks like tiny mushrooms with lonnnng stems :)
