Not really. Skin protection should be used (sun block), however the length of time a person can safely spend in the sun varies with levels of melanin in the skin. The higher the level of melanin the darker the skin. Exposure the sun light however does help the body produce vitamin D (found in milk) which is good. You should determine a balance of direct sunlight and indirect (shade) for yourself. Basically you don't want to stay in the sun so long that you burn; once you feel like you are burning, you are burnt.
