The higher the level of melanin the darker the skin. Exposure the sun light however does help the body produce vitamin D (found in milk) which is good. You should determine a balance of direct sunlight and indirect (shade) for yourself. Basically you don't want to stay in the sun so long that you burn; once you feel like you are burning, you are burnt.
