I have to say that is a rather long time. I had my wisdom teeth taken out on a Thursday and when I went to see the doctor again that following Monday he told me that none of my stitches should still be in my mouth. I was scared to brush around that area, for fear of loosening up my stitches too early. But I found that they really give no resistance when they are ready to come up. So I guess every case is different, but ten days is a bit excessive. But if you had a very tough wisdom tooth extraction (some people have their jaws broken in order to get in there and take the tooth out) then I would call your doctor and ask him/her about the length of time your stitches should be in, because it may be OK . But otherwise I would say it's safe to brush or eat regularly, and usually during one of these activities they should come out easily. if you are worried about your gums healing over your stitches, I'm not really sure it's possible, but again if you are worried about this, call your doctor and ask. They will be able to provide you the most extensive answer because they know you, your teeth, and your history. Hope this helps.

As long as you are healing, you don't have to go back to have new stitches put in.

Can you have a wisdom tooth removed without having stitches?

I have had all my wisdom teeth removed and have never had stitches (Sweden). They were all removed in the same way by different dentists. Local anaesthetic followed by brute force pulling (sounds alot worse than it is). The "opening" left behind heals itself fairly easy. Just had a compressor against it for a few hours for some residual bleeding. Pulling a tooth is not much worse than any other treatment, however the healthier and the more visible the wisdom tooth is, the easier the pull will be.

When does a wisdom tooth need to be surgically removed?

Do you have to remove your growing wisdom tooth?

It is not always necessary to remove wisdom teeth. They are often removed because there may not be enough room in your jaw for the teeth to grow in properly, and they can put pressure on the other teeth. However, some people do have jaws that are large enough to include wisdom teeth. I personally have never had any trouble with my wisdom teeth.
