Gestational Diabetes is sometimes referred to as Type 3 Diabetes. It acts very similar to Type 1 Diabetes in that the symptoms come on strong and fast and can do a great deal of damage to your body in a short amount of time. If you are pregnant and have even the slightest thought that you may have gestational diabetes, get to your doc IMMEDIATELY. You could potentially create life-threatening circumstances to yourself and your baby. If not life-threatining, at the very least you will create serious complications without treatment such as macrosomia (meaning giving birth to a very large baby due to increased blood sugar levels). The baby may also easily develop hypoglycemia after birth because it has gotten used to a high sugar atmosphere and is suddenly taken away from it. Symptoms include excessive increased thirst, excessive increased urination, increased hunger, weight loss, blurred vision and increased risk of infections (especially yeast infections because your body is trying to get rid of so much excess sugar through your urine - high sugar urine = breeding ground for yeast). Get to your doc ASAP if you experience any of these symptoms. On a side note, your gestational diabetes will most likely go away immediately after delivering the baby. However, you have a greatly increased risk of developing Type 2 diabetes much later in life. Treat your body well and you'll have a fighting chance of avoiding this disease altogether in the future.

Is their a type 3 diabetes?

Some researchers use the term “Type 3 diabetes” informally to describe Alzheimer’s disease, because the brain in Alzheimer’s shows insulin resistance and problems with glucose use—similar to what happens in diabetes. But this is not a clinical diagnosis, and doctors do not diagnose or treat Alzheimer’s as Type 3 diabetes.

What are the classifications of being diabetic?

The principal two idiopathic forms of diabetes mellitus are known as types 1 and 2. The term "type1 diabetes" has universally replaced several former terms, including childhood-onset diabetes, juvenile diabetes, and insulin-dependent diabetes. Likewise, the term "type2 diabetes" has replaced several former terms, including adult-onset diabetes, obesity-related diabetes, and non-insulin-dependent diabetes. Beyond these two types, there is no agreed-upon standard nomenclature. Various sources have defined "type 3 diabetes" as, among others, gestational diabetes, insulin-resistant type1 diabetes (or "double diabetes"), type2 diabetes which has progressed to require injected insulin, and latent autoimmune diabetes of adults. There is also maturity onset diabetes of the young which is a group of several single gene (monogenic) disorders with strong family histories that present as type2 diabetes before 30 years of age.

What is a good type of diabetes?

There is NO type of 'good' diabetes, but the one your looking for is probably type 1 diabetes. People are usually born with that type. Type 2 diabetes is the one people get if they're overweight, don't exercise, and they eat junk all the time.

What are the different types of diabetes?

Diabetes can be classified into four different types depending upon the cause and symptoms of diabetes. 1. Type 1 Diabetes also referred to as juvenile diabetes is the result of the body's failure to produce insulin. Sometimes referred to as insulin-dependent diabetes because insulin must be supplied to the body daily. 2. Type 2 Diabetes results from insulin resistance when the body is unable to properly use insulin combined with an insulin deficiency 3. Gestational Diabetes which affects expectant mothers, usually during later pregnancy. 4. Pre-Diabetes occurs when blood glucose levels are elevated above normal but are not high enough for a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes. I would suggest going for Riverview Medical Center's Diabetes Management Program that has been granted national recognition from the American Diabetes Association. They also have a helpline 732-530-2555. Call them to set up your initial appointment and address any questions that you may have.

Patients with type one diabetes have most likely had diabetes for the majority of their life and are diagnosed with a young age. Type one diabetic manage their diabetes with insulin injections while type two diabetics can simply manage their diabetes with diets.
