The general answer to this question is no. Just because you have herpes, that does not mean that your children will automatically have herpes as well. Your doctor should test you, or you should tell your doctor about your genital herpes. Herpes is not a blood or fluid based virus, it is passed through skin to skin contact via the mucous membranes. When a new born gets herpes from its mother, it is typically by a vaginal birth. To avoid risking passing herpes to your child, your doctor will deliver your baby by c-section.
