It depends on how many wisdom teeth are being extracted and how difficult the particular surgery is.

A single extraction of a fully erupted maxillary third molar can take a minute or less, and fully impacted mandibular extractions can take an hour or more.

Time is not the important factor. The most important factor is the skill of the surgeon. He/she should take enough time to safely remove the tooth and minimize any potential complications.

I got my wisdom teeth removed 5 days ago. I received intravenous anesthesia, so I was not concious during the process, but those present said it only took about 35 to 40 minutes for removal. My teeth were also impacted, which may have made the surgery more difficult.

In all, I arrived at the office at 9:15 with an appointment at 9:30. By the time all of the procedures were explained, the surgery didn't begin until about 9:50. I was in the recovery room at about 10:30, and I left the office at 10:45.

Please be aware, however, that removal of the wisdom teeth is a surgery that requires about a week of recovery time. You will swell during the first three days, and may not feel like leaving the house; I slept for most of these days. You will be perscribed some pretty strong pain medication which does make you a little dizzy and fatigued.

As of right now, I'm only feeling some aching pain in my jaw and still have a little bit of swelling. My follow-up appointment is in an hour.

It took my doctor about 20-30 minutes. Though it may vary with how your wisdom teeth are coming in, but it should not take over an hour. and then the gas will not allow you to do anything (or remember anything) for several hours
