I have had this problem for many years and my Dr. said that it was a epiglotal spasm and that breathing into a brown paper bag slowly would help it to go away and it seems to help.But I also have scleroderma and my new Dr. now things it could be linked to that-I have been referred back to my specialist so will report back if i have any news.
