It isn't a choice. Menopause will occur whether or not you take HRT. HRT will reduce some of the symptoms associated with menopause such as hot flashes. If you can tolerate the symptoms you are better off not taking the HRT because it increases the risk of developing certain cancers.

Hormone replacement therapy after a hysterectomy?

If you mean by complete a total hysterectomy (uterus and cervix) ans a salpingo (fallopian tubes) oopherectomy (both ovaries) then yes you will immediately go into surgical menopause. If one ovaary is left then this will not place you into menopause until nature takes its due course.

Does having her ovaries out cause a woman to be more emotional and cry easier?

If you aren't given hormone replacement, then yes, it can. Usually when a woman has her ovaries removed she is given a prescription for HRT (hormone replacement therapy), especially if she hasn't gone through menopause yet. The ovaries are what actually produce the hormones, so if the hormones aren't replaced, she will go through instant, medically induced menopause.

What happens to you after you have a hysterectomy?

Yes. Menopause happens when estrogen is no longer present. If the ovaries remain after a hysterectomy, the normal cycle (except bleeding) will continue until the natural time for menopause (but it is rather unofficial because the bleeding periods stop sooner due to their discontinuation after the hysterectomy). If the ovaries are removed, menopause will follow quickly. Because of the higher risk of osteoporosis, HRT is normal post hysterectomy treatmet in younger people, and that will also delay the onset of menopause.

Can you still go through menopause even after getting a full hysterectomy?

You should have gone through menopause at the time of your complete hysterectomy. Depending on your age and the reason for the hysterectomy you may have been given replacement hormones, at some point in time - your doctor would have slowly decreased the hormones - that would cause you to go into menopause.

Can ovaries regrow after they have shrivelled during menopause?

Not unless you're taking out the uterus, as cervical cancer is a lot bigger worry than ovarian cancer. Mathematically, in terms of women-years, that does make sense ... but my OB/GYN instructor got upset with the logic.
